The Partnership of Counselling and Psychotherapy Bodies (PCPB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof Adam Boddison OBE as its new independent chair.

Adam brings a wealth of leadership experience from across education, professional practice, regulation and public service. He has served as CEO of the Association for Project Management (APM), the chartered membership organisation for the project profession, since 2021, following his tenure as CEO of the National Association for Special Educational Needs (nasen) from 2016 to 2021. His career reflects a deep commitment to inclusive, evidence‑informed practice and the safeguarding of service users.

With a strong track record of building consensus across diverse stakeholder groups, Adam is recognised for fostering governance environments that support both accountability and innovation. He has worked extensively at the intersection of policy, practice and professional standards, ensuring that organisational structures enable the highest levels of integrity and public trust.

A significant part of Adam’s background is his expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion, particularly through his leadership in the SEND sector. His longstanding commitment to improving outcomes for those with complex or additional needs is a central thread throughout his executive and non‑executive work. He was awarded the OBE in 2023 in recognition of his significant contributions to improving outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Commenting on his appointment, which begins immediately, Adam said ‘It is a privilege to take on the role of independent chair at this important moment for the PCPB. The PCPB plays a critical role in upholding high standards across the profession, and I look forward to working collaboratively with colleagues.

‘Throughout my career I have championed inclusive, evidence‑informed approaches that recognise the complexity of human need. I’m particularly committed to ensuring that the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion remain central to how we shape professional practice and safeguard service users.’

Adam follows on from outgoing independent chair Paul Buckley, who has served in the role for the past five years. Reflecting on his time with the partnership, Paul said ‘I would like to thank colleagues across all six partners for their support, commitment and collaboration during my time as independent chair. It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated professionals, and I am deeply grateful for everything we have achieved together. I leave the partnership in very good hands, and I am confident that, under Adam’s leadership, it will continue to go from strength to strength.’

The PCPB partners welcome Adam to the role and look forward to working with him.
