Commission for the Future of Counselling and Psychotherapy call for evidence

Commission for the Future of Counselling and Psychotherapy call for evidence

In October 2025, the Partnership of Counselling and Psychotherapy Bodies (PCPB) established an independently chaired Commission for the Future of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

The Commission is examining the current and future landscape of the professions and the key issues affecting the sector, professionals, services and clients.

As part of this process, we also want to capture the input and views of services, the wider mental health sector and vitally, of those with lived experience. These will help inform the final report and recommendations which will support and shape the direction of future collaborative work between the PCPB and engagement with policymakers and commissioners of services on behalf of the profession and for the benefit of clients.

That’s why we’re inviting anyone with an interest in the future of the profession to contribute their own evidence to this important workstream.

It’s also important our members and registrants are able to contribute to this work. They will receive a survey with questions based around the four themes of the Commission evidence sessions. These are counselling and psychotherapy:

  • the state of the sector
  • is there a case for statutory regulation
  • the evidence base
  • the future for the professions.

How to submit evidence

The call for evidence is open for 10 weeks and will close at 12:00pm on Friday 27 March.

PCPB partner members and registrants

If you’re a member or registrant of a PCPB partner, you will be sent a link to a survey to complete from your membership organisation. These are being sent at different times by each organisation. If you haven’t received this by Tuesday 10 February, please contact your organisation directly. If you’re a member or registrant with more than one PCPB partner, you only need to complete the survey once.

Stakeholders and members of public

If you provide a service, work in the wider mental health sector, have lived experience or have an interest in the Commission’s work and would like to submit evidence, please complete the survey by clicking the link below.
